Kannon Dance School was founded by Vadim and Nataly Kasparov in 1997 with an aim to widely introduce modern and contemporary forms of dance, not only to professional dancers but also to amateurs, dance students, audience, and everyone interested in dance and arts. Kannon Dance Company was formed shortly afterwards. The school started off with just one class of several grown-ups. Being the first contemporary dance school to offer training to a wide audience, nowadays Kannon Dance provides dance education to about 200 students, both grown-ups and children.
School. The main aim of school and company is to allow amateur and professional dancers of all ages to learn various styles of contemporary dance, to foster development of contemporary dance techniques in St.-Petersburg and Russia. Students – both amateurs and professionals – study jazz, funky, ballet, swing, break dance, modern dance, afro etc. Besides training school organizes and runs seminars and master classes with dance masters, supports international dance projects, provides expert information and advice on matters related to dance. The school holds three international festivals a year – Jazz Dance and Music Festival in early spring and Open Look Summer Dance festival in July, and KINODANCE at fall.
The festivals include intensive master classes with choreographers and teacher from Europe and USA and diverse performance program. Each festival makes Kannon Dance School the center of dance life in Russia as participants gather from all over Russia and former USSR.
